Mercedes-Benz has announced a recall of approximately 147,000 sedans and station wagons due to a risk of an engine fire because of the engine compartment seal.

Which Mercedes-Benz models are affected by the recall?

Model years 2013 to 2015 CLS class sedans and the E-class sedan and station wagon.

What causes the possible engine fire?

A rubber seal in the engine bay may stick to the hood when it opens and fall into the exhaust system, thus possibly causing a fire to spark from under the hood.

Are there any known accidents attributed to the defect?

At this time, no known accidents have been reported by Mercedes-Benz attributing to the defect.

What do I do if my car is one of those affected?

Mercedes-Benz will be notifying all owners affected by the recall in March 2015 and will attach four additional retaining clips to the seal, free of charge.
