Mercedes-Benz R Class Suspension Problems

The Mercedes-Benz company's first foray into the luxury multi-purpose vehicle line was its R Class. This vehicle was first shown at the Detroit Auto Show in 2002 with the final version unveiled three years later. Marketed as a sports cruiser by Benz, this exciting vehicle certainly is sporty and stylish but it has given its owners some problems from time to time.

One issue that drivers of the Mercedes-Benz R Class have encountered is a problem with the suspension on the vehicles. Car owners have reported problems with both the front and rear air shocks failing. Some drivers have noticed this problem occurring as the car approached the 100,000 miles mark although it has certainly occurred before and after that point for some people.

Not only have Benz drivers reported these problems with the shocks on the R Class vehicles, some have also observed that the air compressor is switching itself on and off erratically. If this is happening to you, you should take the vehicle into a mechanic for a complete diagnosis. Simply replacing the front or rear shocks may alleviate the problem but this could be a sign of an overall system failure. It is possible that the air compressor would need to be completely replaced as well.

If you are experiencing an issue with the air compressor or suspension system on a Mercedes-Benz R Class, it would be a good idea to bring your vehicle to a German auto maintenance mechanic for a complete evaluation. They will be able to give you an estimate of the cost of repair or replacement.

Search for a local, independent Mercedes-Benz repair shop with Mercedes-Benz mechanics that have dealer-level expertise at a fraction of the expense.
