Testimonials

  • This is by far the best place to bring your German car. I have brought my car to PPI twice so far and have been very satisfied with the job they did. It is clearly explained what options are available for cost effectiveness and high quality. You won't be disappointed with the work here.

  • I recently read a great article in a local news publication, Paradise News, about Tom Potter's Shop, My 2005 AMG was coming due for a Schedule B service along with additional system fluids, as a frugal buyer and long time Crown customer I wanted to test the waters for this standard service. Price wise, Tom's shop was clearly the best choice, what I came to find out was the service additionally topped any of the competition. In fact it was so good I opted to replace the gas struts for my soft top partition as well, due to the price being about the same as if I did it myself. I will be a client going forward based on Tom's dedication and attention to detail. Do yourself a favor and make a call to Potter's Precision for a refreshing service experience.

  • We were extremely happy with the courteous service and fee that was provided by Potter's Precision Imports. My husband accidentally jammed his I pod underneath the cover of the cup holders. He contacted 2 other dealerships and they quoted him double the price to retrieve the I pod. I would highly recommend this company, not only for their courteous and professional service, but also for very fair fees for services rendered.

Had a very poor experience with Richard and would not recommend this shop to anyone! Three main points:

First I was contacted by Richard and he quoted me a price, which was a little expensive for me. I ask if they could do any better on the price. He told me would get back with me later that day. It was the next morning that I heard back from him, and he told me after speaking with his manager that was the best they could do. He explained to me that they normally sell this part for more money, and the only way they could reduce the price would be to cut the labor down. So I agreed to the price with the understanding that this was the best deal.

Later that day I was contacted by the shop and told my vehicle would be ready at 3pm. I confirmed the total over the phone, but was alarmed when the price had went up. I corrected the person on the phone, only to hear Richard in the back ground telling me the price he quoted didn’t include tax. After arriving at the shop I ask to speak with a manager. Unfortunately he was not unavailable, so I ended up having a very uncomfortable conversation with Richard in regards to my dissatisfaction with my experience, which ended with the taxes not being added to the price I agreed/quoted to over the phone.

Secondly I feel Richard did not called me in a timely manor, nor treat me with respect. When I first spoke with Richard I explained that the rear suspension was dropping sporadically, and I was there to have the issue resolved. Now this could mean a number of things and given air suspensions take time to diagnose, I expected it might take some time.

I was surprised when I received a call from Richard telling me that the rear hadn’t dropped and if I wanted I could pick up the car and just pay the diagnostic fee. Ok I was already aware that the suspension sporadically would drop! So I explained to Richard that I felt it would be foolish to bring the car home without fixing the issue. Meaning if I took the car home and it dropped and wouldn’t raise I would then have to tow the vehicle to the shop and that just didn’t make since to me.

Finally I spoke with Tom the owner, now he seems like a very nice man, however I explained to him that I felt deceived/lies to by Richard. After the billing issue, I don’t know, just didn’t feel like things weren’t honest. So I called Arnott the company that makes the part that they used on my car. Only to find out the price I paid was 71% more than what the maker charges. Now this is where my biggest issue comes into play. So when I ask Richard about lowering the price he told he that they normally charge over 500 dollars for this part and I was getting it at cost, which was 325, but Arnotts price is 187.80?

So basically they do a 300% mark up on their parts, and a 71% mark up is a great deal. Not so sure about that.. you can be the judge yourself, I just wanted other potential customers to know the truth about their pricing. I felt like I was dealing with a used car salesman, lots of lying!

I can't tell you how awesome Tom Potter is and Potter's Precision Imports. I was a long time client of Tom's when he was at Mercedes and when he decided to go on his own I fully supported him. The service I have had is second to none. If you are looking for someone who is honest, affordable, and truly cares for his customers then you need to go to Potter's Precision. I was getting my fluids changed and they noticed that one of my tires was slowly leaking. Turns out Mercedes hadn't put the new tire on properly. Potter's took the time to find the root cause and fix it. They were more concerned about my safety then anything. They are the BEST!

My 560SL is well on its way to being completely restored to original, like-new condition. Potter's Precision Imports recently completed some substantial mechanical work which included: a re-manufactured transmission with related parts, engine mounts sub-frame bushing kit, left and right upper control arms, lower control arm bushing kit, front lower ball joints, front Bilitein shock absorbers, and the replacement of worn front suspension components. They flushed and replaced brake fluid. Performed power steering service and got the climate control system working perfectly. The car now drives as well as my wife's S550. I am absolutely thrilled with the quality of his work. A special hats off to Steve Johnson, the mechanic that actually did the work. He is great!

Just moved to Brandon from Michigan. Was using an independent in Michigan and had a great experience utilizing independents versus the dealer. I have a 2008 E320 Blutec with 190,000 miles. Shooting for 300k I shopped around a few independents in Brandon but the prices were comparable to dealers and their experience with diesels especially the late model V6 was limited. I found Potters Precision Imports on Benz Shops and spoke with Tom, the owner on the phone. His shop rates are competitive and his extensive experience with Mercedes and diesels set him apart from the competition. He provided an honest evaluation of what my vehicle needed and didn't push extras before they were due. His boutique shop has the amenities you would expect at the dealer without paying a premium.

Tom Potter has been servicing my Mercedes autos for over 6 years. First with Crown Eurocar and now with his own shop, Potter's Precision Imports. Tom and his team (Steve) and others are highly skilled in the art of German car repair. Their attention to to detail is second to none. So if your sick of the dealer's BS and high prices, go to to PPI for superior service. Be prepared to wait several days for an appointment as PPI has been discovered by discerning owners of fine automobiles.

My husband and I will not be servicing our vehicle with anyone other than Tom @ Potter's Precision Imports. From the very beginning of our experience, Tom was extremely helpful and went out of his way to help us with our situation. His expertise had lead us to recommend him to our family and fellow Mercedes owners. We live 37 miles from his shop and will not be going anywhere else. His shop, office and staff were all extremely professional and courteous. Don't get caught up in the Mercedes dealer BS, go see Tom in St. Petersburg no matter where you live, you will not regret it.
