The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class W216, a personal luxury coupe, was manufactured from 2006-present. Known for its sophisticated body style, the German import sports chrome around its circular fog lamps, high sheen spokes, enlarged air intakes, and much more. The W216 was and still is admired by the public; however, a few common problems have been noted, including trunk issues.
For example, some CL-Class owners have reported that their trunk will unlock with the key, but that sporadically the motor will fail to actually open or close the compartment. Some drivers have noted that this issue occurs not only when using the fob, but also when using the switch inside of the Mercedes. Others yet have observed the trunk opening, but only an inch or so. The trunk may or may not finish opening or closing after the process has been started manually.
In the event of such problems, a Mercedes owner should first make sure that they have not accidentally activated the trunk safety mode; in this mode, the compartment will open only slightly upon the first button press. If this is not the problem, the issue could be a latch air leak, or there could be an issue with the wiring near the hinges. Alternately, the hydraulic pump could be low on fluid and, in this case, a qualified owner might be able to refill the fluid reservoir beneath the battery. The leak, however, might need to be patched.
