2nd Generation Mercedes-Benz S Class Airmatic Problems

Mercedes-Benz has manufactured different variations of its flagship sedan, the S class, since the 1950’s. The Mercedes-Benz W221 was manufactured from 2005-2013, and many of these models are still on the road today as they are extremely dependable vehicles, with the added bonus that they are extremely fun to drive. The S Class boast a wide array of safety and comfort amenities, from power assisted braking to a digitally control air suspension system that creates a ride as smooth as glass. Though these systems are terrific upgrades while they function properly, when they fail it can create quite a headache.

Often, Mercedes S Class W221 drivers experience problems with the Airmatic system that is designed to automatically control the air suspension in the vehicle. It usually begins with a ride that feels a little on the rough side, and gradually can become worse over time. This could be due to either leaks in the system or a failed compressor. If allowed to completely fail, the Airmatic system can cause either the front or rear end of the vehicle to completely lose pressure and will make the car undriveable.

Because of the serious consequences that can result from this problem left unchecked, we do not recommend that you attempt to make a home diagnosis and repair on your Mercedes-Benz. An incorrect repair could result in a car that is difficult to handle, which is a highly dangerous situation.

If you suspect that the Airmatic system in your Mercedes-Benz is failing, take it to your nearby German auto import specialist immediately. He or she will be able to identify the cause of the issue and work with you to ensure the right repair is made to make your S Class W221 worry-free.

Search for a local, independent Mercedes-Benz repair shop with Mercedes-Benz mechanics that have dealer-level expertise at a fraction of the expense.
